What is in the BEST interest of the child? You have been asked by a Family Court judge to evaluate the mother and father of two boys and one girl who are going through a vicious divorce situation plus placement with a potential foster couple, as well as offer expert recommendations for the judge to consider on who gets custody of the children. The mother works at an exotic dance club during the evenings and has a history of drug abuse. The father suffers from PTSD and alcoholism. This is a Hispanic family and Catholic. The potential foster parents are Black and Muslim, and who have successfully cared for other foster children. How would you go about determining the fitness of each person and what advice would you recommend to the judge?
