In 300-400 words, use one of the three essays that we have read thus far (“Is Google Making Us Stupid?”, “Are Too Many People Going to College?”, or “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” to discuss the following two prompts:
1) Using textual evidence, connect Carr’s essay with at least one of the writing methods discussed in Chs. 4-7 (i.e., planting a naysayer, demonstrating the import of the topic, etc.). In other words, show how the author does or doesn’t follow the advice given in the textbook in at least one chapter.
AND
2) Evaluate the answer to their question: “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” or “Are Too Many People Going to College?”, etc., or in the case of “Hillbilly Elegy” determine how well Vance uses his specific memories to start to demonstrate intellectual patterns or “make a point.”
[Pro-tip: evaluating a writer’s response is very different from simply agreeing or disagreeing! You are analyzing how WELL they deal with their argument on their terms and perhaps on broader terms. And whatever you end up writing about make sure you given specific reasons!]
