Identify the argument in Anna Quindlen’s Newsweek essay, “We’ve Been Here Before,” and assess the quality of that argument. What kind of argument is Quindlen making? What are the potential problems with this kind of argument? Does she prove it? What is the quality of her evidence?
Identify examples of fallacies in Quindlen’s essay. Quote examples and explain how they fit the definitions of specific fallacies. Also, use the Stoker essay as a counter-point to Quindlen’s argument. What could Quindlen learn from Stoker? Remember, you are not debating the war in Iraq, or the successes or failures of the Bush presidency. This is an analysis of Quindlen’s argument. The fine print: The paper is to be 3 – 4 pages in length. It is to have a works cited page – even on the first draft. All drafts are typed, double-spaced, and in a 12pt. Times Roman font and in MLA Format.
