Close listening assignment: Compare two songs from our first few classes (a list of composers and songwriters will be provided). Write a five-page essay describing the song(s) with descriptive and technical musical terminology (see list of terms on Canvas). Listen many times and use your ears to describe what you hear. Consider melody, rhythm, harmony, lyrics, vocal timbre, instrumentation, word painting, function, and mood. No sources required, but you must cite if you use them.
