This brings into focus a historical philosophical and religious problem: Why does a purportedly good God allow evil? Explore the philosophical challenges posed by such beliefs in light of twentieth-century history, particularly the Holocaust and the creation of Israel. How do scholars explain the tension between God’s existence and care for his people, while at the same time allowing for such atrocities to occur? Which theological theory sounds most plausible?
