The human rights organization, Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers, estimates that as many as 100,000 children were recruited to participate in armed conflict in Africa in 2004. Research the history of child soldiers in Africa. What are some of the political, economic, and social conditions in Africa that have led to children becoming soldiers? Why are children attractive to the militants who recruit them for warfare? What international efforts in Africa exist to help to prevent this misuse of children?
