The first reading is an Indian drama by Kalidasa. The drama is known as “The Recognition…” and the main character’s name, Shakuntala, often appears in various spellings. For this assignment, read the introductory material…then scroll down to where the actual play begins. Read the play in its entirety.

The topic of your essay should focus on THEME>..WHAT THEME OR THEMES DO YOU FEEL ARE MOST SIGNIFICANT IN THE PLAY? Why? Be sure to cite examples from the play attesting to the importance of the theme you have chosen.
