Final Project (35% of Grade): Students will complete a final project relating the topics covered in the course to the practice of pastoral ministry/care. Students must have their project approved by the instructor. Final project should be 12-15 pages in length (12 pt. font double-spaced). Remember that page length refers to the body of the paper and not the bibliography page. The bibliography should consist of no less than seven (7) sources. The paper should show evidence of critical engagement with class readings and independent research and contain appropriate footnotes and bibliography. Include no less than eight (8) footnotes from pertinent course readings and no less than three (3) independent scholarly
resources that address the specific type of trauma addressed in your paper. Quotes from class discussions PowerPoint presentations web-based and other non-academic sources are not acceptable. Paper should conform to the APA form or Chicago Manual of Style (see latest edition of Kate L. Turabian A Manual for Writers of Term Papers Theses and Dissertations). Projects that are not an academic paper should be presented in a format that is professional and appropriate to the project. Final project is due the last class.
Possible projects include: (1) an academic research paper in which the student focuses in-depth on a specific practice issue within the field of trauma; (2) a critical analysis of a popular film discussing the trauma-related issues depicted in the film; or (3) a proposal for a comprehensive congregation-based ministry to trauma survivors that includes liturgy/rituals designed to facilitate healing a comprehensive Christian Education curriculum consideration to collective as well as individual trauma worship services commemorations and community prayer services including services for the larger community etc.
