The Oxford Books Company (OBC)1 has recently developed a web-based system that enables customers to get
information about various books as well as buy them. The company sells a variety of new and used books at cheaper
prices. The management of OBC is pleased with the web-based system as it would be more beneficial for the company
as well as convenient for their customers to easily search for books and buy them. This would also increase the
books sale. After testing the system with some users the company decided to make the system online and to allow
people to search for and buy books using the OBC website.
Unfortunately, several problems were developed with the new system after a few months of operation. Users were
complaining that the system is getting slower. For instance, they were not able to see the contents of the website
within few seconds. There were also problems with checking the prices of the books. Some people complained that
the website cannot properly display correct and consistent information as well as images of the books they want to
buy. Different web browsers were displaying the webpage contents differently. Some people also complained that
they were worried about the security and the reliability aspects of the website and they hesitate to make the
payment online.
The OBC management wanted such problems to be fixed. They planned to develop a new system which is free from the

and in dealing with the above issues.
