Using the criteria and theoretical constructs generated together in class, write an analysis (2-3 pages) of one song of your choosing, emphasizing historical and musical context and citing newspaper and other coverage of the event or issue that you argue is being effectively worked out in the song. Focus on close textual analysis, but dont neglect to historicize! And remember: because it is music, you need to talk about the way it sounds, as well as its lyrical content.
